The square, ginger-colored double-pointed needles are made of dyed birch wood; the smooth surface offers excellent grip and provides a better resting area for the fingers compared to rounded needle tips.
The ginger coloring makes dark yarns easier to see against the needles than with the Jador tips.
The resulting stitch definition is more even than with standard tips, and the gauge is approximately a quarter to half a size smaller.

Needle size is measured exactly the same way as for round needles—for example, a 3.0 mm square needle fits into the 3.0 mm hole on a needle gauge.
